When I was big and you were little - A children's book by RS Whipple

Description

San Francisco-based artist Rebecca Whipple Silverstein wrote and illustrated this children’s book, a story of a little girl who imagines herself switching roles with her father at bedtime.

I collaborated with Rebecca in numerous respects, managing the development of the project from the original paintings through to finished copies.

At the outset I developed a page size which worked for the size of the paintings. As part of that exercise I costed printing options in the US, UK and Far East. Based on the cost figures for the printing and all the preparatory work we settled on the best combination of price and location. This provided the basis for setting the target for the successful crowdfunding campaign which followed.

I provided Rebecca with the guidance needed to capture her paintings so they could be printed at the highest quality. It was critical to faithfully reproduce the wonderful vibrant colours and rich details of the originals. We converted the digital files to CMYK using a pre-press expert I engaged on her behalf. This part of the process took into account crucial details of the (uncoated) paper and printing process being used. We used top-level colour management to ensure Rebecca was able to see and approve hard copy colour proofs which we were confident the printer would be able to match.

Cick here for her reaction to receiving the finished copies, posted on Instagram – ‘My labor of love of the past 3 years has become an object in the world – a magical object.’
